You need a wider detection window than 1 to 3 days. Urine screens detect most substances for only 1 to 3 days. Oral fluid tests generally pick up only use within the past 24 hours. Hair screens detect drug usage up to 90 days previous to the collection.
Someone has previously consistently provided dilute or temperature out of range urine drug screens. It is virtually impossible to tamper with hair collection.
A court has specifically ordered it.
Choose an oral fluids test when:
You need to detect recent use. For example a chronic marijuana user may retain marijuana metabolites in the urine for up to 30 days. To be detected in oral fluid, the marijuana must have been consumed within the past 24 hours.
Appropriate facilities or adequately trained or same-sex staff are not available for urine collection.
Staff are not willing to handle urine.
A court has specifically ordered it.
Choose a urine test when:
An individual will be doing random drug screens for any period of time.
Substances other than those available in hair screens or oral fluid screens are the suspected drug of choice.
An inexpensive, reliable form of testing is required.
Trained and same-sex staff are available for the collection.
A court has specifically ordered it.
Choose an "instant" test when:
Negative results are needed quickly.
Staff are available to perform the test.
An individual is testing himself or herself for personal reasons.
Choose a standard test (non-instant test) when:
100% accuracy is essential.
Legal decisions will be based on the test result.
A 24 to 48 hour waiting time for results is not an issue.
